Rule Book or Love Letter?

Let your religion be less of a theory and more of a love affair” (G.K. Chesterton). “Theory” is used in the sense of “a particular conception or view of something to be done or of the method of doing it; a system of rules or principles.” For instance, we read the Bible as a rule book and not as God’s “love letter,” or we live our lives “by the rules” and not in response to His love. What is the difference? One makes us robots, the other makes us truly human.
